Reply with quote | #1 | Can any one tell me whom the contractor for the Olympic commissaries
in hanford washington in the 1940s was? I do know the subcontractor was Dupont.
My Mother worked at one of the commissaries. she died of a rare cancer when she was 39 years old. I have all the paper work the DOE requested but the problem is I cannot prove she worked there as her pay checks came out of chicago.
social security told me she worked as a waitress at a commissary but would not give me any more information. we lived in that big old trailer camp and I am dold we were downwinders. I would appreciate any information.
Thank you, Earlene Hale |

Reply with quote | #2 | Please click my user name and when my info pops up click "see all posts." Then click my 7/28/07 3:26pm post. It contains directions on how to request a former worker's ORISE database details.
There are a A LOT of Hanford names in the database and I'm sure most or all contractor employees are included under the four Hanford headings. (Just as Union Carbide names are included in the tally of K-25, Paducah GDP, and other site names). 56,588 names are in ORISE under the heading "Hanford-Operations." 13,206 names are listed under "Hanford-Construction." And two other headings are just listed as "Hanford", one has 129 names, the other 7.
Too see ORISE's 61 headings and the number of names for each heading, Google "Turcic Hanford Harshaw" and click the top link. Then scroll way down the page.
ORISE contains over 400,000 names.
Good Luck,
Tom |

I edited my last post. That link is ridiculously long and complicated (par for the course... the DOL created it). Just Google "Turcic Hanford Harshaw" and the top link is the page I'm talking about. Scroll way down the page to see the chart showing a breakdown of the ORISE database. |
