Reply with quote | #2 | I have a copy of the play IN THE MATTER OF J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER on 3 LPs. Joseph Wiseman (later he played Dr. No) played Oppenheimer. __________________ Will Orwell was here. |

I have just finished reading "Brotherhood of the Bomb" by Greg Herken (sp?) which goes into great detail about the Oppenheimer travesty. As a long-time teacher of history, I have always known that J. Edgar Hoover was an evil man and I have recently been promoting in California a petition to have his name removed from the FBI building in DC. However, what I did not know was the extent that Lewis Strauss played in Oppenheimer's downfall. He was a terrible and vindictive human being. |

You are absolutely right! Lewis Strauss, Roger Robb, William Borden, and J. Edgar Hoover should all be held accountable. They were all men with "small minds". If you go to an encyclopedia and look up "Snake in the Grass", there should be a picture of Lewis Stauss next to it! |

Just about finished with "American Prometheus". I'd never even heard of Lewis Strauss until this. I found this website doing a Google search on him. I wanted to find out where he's buried so I could desecrate his grave if I'm ever in that area. Even though I detest liberals, socialists and communists I find myself utterly disgusted with the tactics employed against J R Oppenheimer. I already knew that J E Hoover was a twisted little beast, but it was a real eye opener about Truman's cinder block mentality. I suppose it speaks of the egalitarian nature of our society, that a shoe salesman, a closet case and a haberdasher could afflict a man like Oppenheimer. |

The transcript of the security hearing is also available. If you want to ruin your eyes, read the 1,065 pages (plus index) of small print of, "In the Matter of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Transcript of Hearing before Personnel Security Board and Texts of Principal Documents and Letters." My copy was made by the MIT Press in 1971. ISBN (hardcover) 0 262 21003 7 ISBN (paperback) 0 262 71002 1 Library of Congress catalog card number: 9-138845 Mike __________________ 59 years old from Missoula, MT., living in San Diego, CA. |

I just finished that book myself and was searching for his grave on the internet when I came across this for the very reasons you stated. I was simply disgusted how low a person could stoop because of personal enmity.
